When God Does a New Thing

Isaiah 43:19 (WEB)

“Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”

Behold, I will do a new thing…

There’s something so hopefully reassuring about that promise. If your world feel worn down — or your heart feels the same — God says, “I’m not done. I’m doing something new.”

Maybe you have walked or are currently walking through a long season of waiting, feeling lost in the wilderness and you are wondering what’s next. The path behind you may be littered with broken plans or painful memories. You may be wondering if God really does new things anymore — at least for you.

However, in this verse from Isaiah, he reminds us that God's nature is one of renewal and restoration. He’s not in the business of recycling old disappointment. He creates fresh beginnings — right in the middle of dry, lifeless places.

“I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
This is the kind of transformation only God can do. He created the universe and everything in it. He can without a doubt create a way where there was none, water where things once dried up and hope where you had almost given up.

Notice how He says: “It springs out now.”
Not later. Not someday. Now.
God’s timing may not match ours, but when He moves, it can feel sudden. What seemed impossible for so long can start to come alive in a moment. The seed you planted years ago may start to grow overnight — not because of you, but because He wills it to spring forth.

Reflection For Today:

Where do you need God to do something new?
Is it in your faith? Your mindset? A relationship? Your purpose?
Even if the landscape of your life looks like a desert, God is able to carve out a river and call it good.

Don’t underestimate small beginnings or quiet moments. Sometimes, the “new thing” starts inside us before we ever see it around us.

Prayer:

Lord,
I don’t even know where to begin sometimes. I’m tired — not just in my body, but in my spirit. I’ve been waiting for so long in some areas that I’m not even sure what I’m waiting for anymore.

But I do believe You see it.
You see me. And You’re not finished.

So here I am — with my mess, my questions, my worn-down heart — and I’m just asking… please, do something new in me. Even if I don’t feel it yet. Even if it’s quiet. I want to trust You in the middle of it all.

Help me not miss it when You start to move.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
