When the Lord Sets the Timing

There’s a strange mix of peace and restlessness that comes when God puts a calling on your heart but asks you to wait. You can feel the tug toward the thing He’s placed in you — the ministry you long to start, the place you dream of going, the work you know you were made to do. Yet no matter how much you pray, plan, or prepare, the door doesn’t open.

In those moments, it’s easy to wonder if we heard Him wrong. Did we imagine it? Was it just our own wishful thinking? But often, the delay is not God saying no — it’s Him saying, Not yet.

Scripture reminds us:

For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it, because it will surely come. It won’t delay. – Habakkuk 2:3 WEB

God’s timing is not slow, though it may feel that way to us. He is aligning circumstances we cannot see, preparing hearts we have never met, and shaping us so that when the moment comes, we will be ready to carry what He’s entrusted to us.

Waiting seasons can feel like wasted seasons, but in the Kingdom of God, nothing is wasted. David spent years in the fields with sheep before becoming king. Joseph sat in prison before stepping into Pharaoh’s palace. Even Jesus waited thirty years before beginning His public ministry.

If God has planted a dream in you, you don’t have to force it into existence. You don’t have to scheme, strive, or manipulate. You simply have to trust the One who knows the end from the beginning.

Seven years ago, I believe God planted the seed to start a blog in my heart. Out of fear, I’ve started and stopped, procrastinated, and wrestled with doubt that I could do it. Yet the dream and desire have never left me. I don’t know for sure if this calling is from God, but I feel compelled to pursue it.. Maybe all my procrastinating was leading me here, now. I don't know, but I am willing now to put it all in His hands and see where this takes me.

When the appointed time comes, no person, obstacle, or closed door will be able to stand in the way. Until then, rest in the assurance that God’s timing is perfect — and His plans for you are good.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the dreams You’ve placed in my heart. Help me to trust Your timing and not try to rush ahead of Your plan. Give me patience in the waiting and faith to believe that You are working all things for my good. Amen.
